Susan O’Brien intends to change the world one Hail Merry morsel at a time.
In 2006, the just-turned-40 interior designer, yogi and mother of three sons fell in love with the hippie-esque raw foods movement.
So she turned her North Dallas backyard pool cabana into a makeshift test kitchen and set about the business that’s become Hail Merry LLC.
During the recent holidays, consumers noshed on mini pumpkin tart samples at Costco, found mini cookie-dough macaroons on their pillows at Omni Hotels and snacked on salted brownie bites aboard Virgin America flights.

My story started on the island of Maui where I fell in love with Superfoods and the Raw Foods lifestyle. As a devoted daughter, wife & mother of three boys, this new way of living seemed like a natural progression from my decade long yoga practice.
Food production is in my DNA, given that my grandparents were farmers growing organic heirloom vegetables and fruits in the small East Texas town of Grand Saline. My uncle (whom I adored) would continue the family farming tradition growing citrus fruits & vegetables near the Mexican border town of McAllen, Texas where I frequently visited as a child and have fond memories of picking fresh fruits from the trees. In a matter of six years, healthy snack company Hail Merry has traveled from its birthplace in founder Susan O’Brien’s poolside cabana to the aisles of Whole Foods and the pillow tops of Omni Hotel guests.
Currently the only refrigerated raw dessert provider in national distribution, Hail Merry supplies gluten-free, raw and vegan snacks full of omegas and living enzymes to grocers, restaurants, hotels, airports, airlines and consumers’ homes across the country. READ MORE

Susan O’Brien: Jake, your character in Free Birds, is a turkey born on a factory farm. How do these circumstances shape his life?
Woody Harrelson: Jake realizes how horrible factory farming is. This gives his character the drive to liberate turkeys by going back in a time machine to visit the first Thanksgiving.

“Hail Merry is a snack and dessert company, and that includes sweet and savory because both are important in the snacking industry,” Ms. Chapin told Food Business News at the N.R.A. show. “So we’ll definitely be an on-the-go product, but you’ll continue to see some other things from us in the future.”
The business has grown sevenfold since 2010, Ms. Chapin said, adding, “We slowed down for a period because we needed capital, and now we’re getting ready to ramp again.” Last May, Hail Merry announced it had received a minority investment from HBC Investments and Powerplant Ventures, enabling it to further expand its marketing, sales support and distribution.
