  • Self-Respecting Sacral Chakra PEAR Smoothie

    Posted on February 18, 2012

Chakras are centers of energy located in the midline of the body. There are 7 chakras and they reign over our psychological well being.  The 2nd chakra is the Sacral chakra, located in the lower abdomen and the center of emotional, sensual, and sexual consciousness. When it is in balance you are able to express and feel your emotions. You feel happy and confident with whom you are.  When you are distant and unemotional your Sacral chakra is underactive. Very emotional and promiscuous people are said to have overactive Sacral chakras.

Breakfast is an important part of a balanced Sacral chakra. The 3 “R” Cleansing Juice recipe is an excellent example of a Sacral food- orange in color and abundant in water that reconnects you to the earth. The Self-Respecting Pear Smoothie below is a luxurious celebration of rhythmic energy and will inspire your senses to remove any blockages so your body can heal.  Respect yourself with this nutrient rich treat of 350 calories, 15 grams of fiber, healthy Omega-3 oils, and plenty of potassium, calcium, Vitamin C and other essential antioxidants. Enjoy it with a Miracle Tart to truly Feed Your body Royally.

  • Gluten-Free Anti-Inflammatory Recipes: Aphrodisiac Arugula Salad with Pears and Seeds

    Posted on January 19, 2012

I first had this sophisticated salad in Barcelona where arugula is prized for its aphrodisiac powers. In this gluten-free salad recipe, the leafy green is married with sweet luscious pears to crank up the feel good anti-inflammatory power of love! The secret ingredient is the walnut oil, a richly flavored healthy oil containing omega-3 essential fatty acids and vitamin E that help neutralize free-radicals and reduce chronic inflammation in the body. The result- you feel good! For a RAW version, substitute sliced ripe avocados for the roasted pears, or just slice and serve the pears. For a VEGAN version, substitute 1-tablespoon nutritional yeast for the shaved cheese. Arugula is a cruciferous vegetable, classified in the same class as broccoli and cabbage. The phytochemicals in cruciferous vegetables help detoxify the body and strengthen the immune system. Arugula is nutrient dense- low in calories but a great source of dietary fiber, vitamins C, A, and K, calcium, iron and potassium. And unlike spinach, arugula does not contain oxalates, which interfere with calcium absorption. No wonder arugula has been a crowd pleaser since Ancient Roman times. Declare Love and serve this salad today. It only takes 15 minutes to prepare!

Aphrodisiac Arugula Salad with Pears and Seeds

    Serves 2-4

2 Bartlett pears, cored and quartered, then each quarter cut in half

    1 tablespoon organic coconut oil

    3 tablespoons walnut oil

1 1/2 tablespoons raw apple cider vinegar

6 cups arugula (or mixture of greens like spinach)

1/4 cup Hail Merry Salt N Pepper Sunflower Seeds

    2 tablespoons dried organic cranberries

1/4 cup parmesan cheese (optional), cut into shavings or 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast

Coarse sea salt and fresh ground pepper to taste

    1. Toss pear quarters in coconut oil. Roast at 400ºF until slightly browned on both sides (10 minutes). Cool slightly but use warm on salad. If a RAW salad is desired, omit tossing in oil & roasting; slice each pear quarter into 6 thin pieces.

    2. In a small bowl, whisk the oil & vinegar together to make the dressing.

    3. In a salad bowl, toss the arugula, with the pears, dressing, sunflower seeds and dried cranberry until the leaves are coated. If making a VEGAN salad, add nutritional yeast. Season with salt and pepper as needed.

    4. Place salad on serving plates and sprinkle with cheese if desired.

  • Gluten-Free Anti-inflammatory Foods and Recipes: Wakame Sea Vegetable Salad

    Posted on January 17, 2012

Chronic inflammation is the root cause of most diseases and conditions.  And it is painful- manifesting itself in over 300 symptoms and in every system of the body.  Over 50 million people have at least one autoimmune disease and 78% of the sufferers are women. In a past anti-inflammatory blog, I discussed the importance of eating a varied whole foods plant and animal diet.  It is also important to eat plenty of these foods RAW so you can enjoy all the healing health benefits of living enzymes.  Enzymes reduce inflammation by neutralizing the bio-chemicals of irritation. The basic foundation of a healthy anti-inflammatory diet is: fresh whole organic vegetables; fruits; raw nuts and seeds; unrefined raw plant oils such as olive and coconut; herbs & spices; quinoa; protein high in omega-3 such as hemp, flaxseed, chia seeds, wild salmon and other cold water fish like sardines; organic eggs; and grass fed animal protein. Here are 4 plant-based recipes to get you started eating more raw vegetables and fruits:

    1. Confetti Carrot Ginger Salad with cabbage and ginger

    2. Living Cress Salad a la Provence with cauliflower and grapes

    3. Healing Gut Tonic with papaya and pineapple

    4. Wakame Seaweed Salad with sea vegetables (recipe below)

    Wakame Seaweed Salad

    1 cup dried wakame seaweed

1 cup peeled, seeded, and finely chopped cucumber

1 scallion, green part only, sliced 1/4 inch thick.

    2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar

    2 tablespoons sesame oil

1 teaspoon raw sugar (or favorite sweetener)

    2 tablespoons black sesame seeds

    1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes

Sea salt and fresh pepper to taste

    1. Place seaweed in a shallow bowl. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Let cool (118°F) and pour over seaweed. Let soak for 30 minutes, or until seaweed is soft.  Rinse and drain well.
    2. In a medium bowl, combine seaweed with cucumber, scallions, vinegar, sesame oil and sugar. Season with salt and pepper and more sugar if needed.
    3. Serve sprinkled with sesame seeds and chili flakes.
