Dr. Oz And The Wonders Of Coconut Oil

Posted on February 15, 2011

Coconut oil is one of the most important ingredients we use in all of our products at Hail Merry. From Merry’s Miracle Tarts to the Raw, vegan, orange cranberry granola. We love the flavor, we love the texture, and we love the way it your heightens the senses as you eat products with coconut oil in them… but, of course, we here at Hail Merry are also aware that coconut oil is quite a few health benefits, too. In fact, some oils, like coconut oil, actually have healing properties! That’s why we add these healthy oils to our products.

But, what’s that you say? You heard that oil was bad for you? Well, don’t take our word on it. Let’s ask the experts… how about… Dr. Oz?!?!

In a recent episode, Dr. Oz acknowledged the role of coconuts in our favorite treats, but also shared three main health benefits that the oil provides. First and foremost, it’s great for weight loss. Coconut oil is a saturated fat, which means it’s solid at room temperature. This is usually a bad thing. But coconut oil has the same amount of calories as vegetable oil, and contains smaller molecules than other saturated fat. Basically, this means it’s easier for your body to process and won’t get stuck and become fat.

The benefits aren’t just on the inside. Coconut oil has been used for centuries as a skin treatment, and today is a main ingredient in natural lotions and sunscreens. But, says Dr. Oz, it can also replace some expensive medications that treat eczema and psoriasis, and even some fungal infections due to the presence of lauric acid, a natural antibiotic. That lauric acid also contributes Dr. Oz’s third health benefit of coconut oil: ulcers. Lauric acid is proven to kill the bacteria that causes many common stomach ulcers.

So, what’s the best way to get all these great benefits? No, eating more Mounds bars probably isn’t what the doctor ordered. But, adding a little Hail Merry in your diet is a great place to start.

I fell in love with a certain brand of raw food "tarts" made with coconut oil. I ate one a day for about three weeks. At the end of the 3 weeks, I had a physical and they drew my blood to check my cholesterol levels. My cholesterol had gone UP. I think a saturated fat is a saturated fat and that is that. I stopped the tarts immediately.

Dr Oz, I work for a local gas utility company and have been there for 9 years working in the office doing everything from customer service to accounting and doing the deposits. There was an opportunity to make a change and learn how to do inventory. For this new job I had to move to the operations building. I had an office off of the warehouse. Having to spend at least an hour a day in the warehouse where there is galvanized and welding pieces. It is not that I don't like the job I now do, the problem is I went to the operations building in September of 2012 and in December 27, 2012 I was admitted to the hospital with double pneumonia, bronchitis and pleurisy. I went to the Doctor on 5 occasions before being admitted. I was in the hospital for 10 days. The 3 doctors I saw wrote letters to my company telling that I have to be moved away from the warehouse. I went back to work at the warehouse the end of January and I am sick again with acute asthmatic bronchitis. I use the nedi pot and use the medications the Pulmonary Doctor gave me. Tell me what I can do to feel better. I have only to October to retire.
